Moving to Menangle Park: what to set up before the keys, and in your first two weeks

Line up power, internet and mail redirection before the keys; each has its own lead time. Once you are in, ring for your bin service straight away, because it is the one thing here that cannot be ordered online. Campbelltown City Council has no online order form for a new bin service: the owner or managing agent must ring Customer Service on 02 4645 4000, the property must already have an Occupation Certificate, and bins arrive within three business days with the charge added to the property’s rates. Water, pets and rates can wait a week, and most of it is done online.

Menangle Park is a greenfield suburb in the Campbelltown local government area. Bins, rates and pets come from Campbelltown City Council. A post office and a supermarket are not in the suburb at all yet, so part of this list is setting up around a gap.

Before settlement: the things to line up first

• Sign up with an electricity retailer before you move in, and ask whether the house needs a new meter
• Check your exact address on nbn’s address checker, then book a connection and a start date with a provider
• Check your address on each mobile carrier’s coverage map if reception matters to you
• Apply to redirect your mail
• Building rather than buying? Council consent and Sydney Water’s Tap in approval come first — see Water
• Do not specify gas appliances until gas at your lot is confirmed — see Gas

Electricity retailer

Your retailer is a separate company you choose and pay. Endeavour will not sell you a plan, and your retailer cannot restore your power. The Australian Energy Regulator’s moving-house guidance is blunt: “You need to sign up with a retailer first – do it early to save time later.” It also warns that a new home might need a new meter, which the retailer will tell you about, and that getting gas and electricity switched on “can take a few months”. For a house that has never had power connected, that is a settlement-week problem if you leave it to moving day.

Internet

nbn’s own moving checklist has three steps in its “more than 4 weeks until your move” column: check the new address, contact a provider to arrange the connection, a start date and a time for any equipment to be installed, and tell your current provider when you want to disconnect. Its moving-day step is separate: leave any nbn-supplied equipment at the old address, because it is registered there. nbn also says that for a property that has not had a fixed internet connection before, an additional $300 New Developments Charge may apply, and that providers may pass it on.

Check your own address rather than trusting a suburb-level claim. One Menangle Park address, on Doriemus Avenue, is cited below from nbn Co’s address servicing data as checked in August 2026: Fibre to the Premises, fixed line, available, ready for service September 2023. Three more, on Durbridge Street, Mount Pleasant Drive and Racecourse Avenue, returned the same technology in the research behind this page, with ready-for-service dates from July 2017 to May 2024, but those lookups are not cited here.

Four addresses is a sample, not the suburb, and stages that have not been released yet cannot be checked this way at all. Enter your exact address at nbnco.com.au/check-address before you commit to a plan.

Mobile is a separate question, and we could not find measured coverage data for the estate. Telstra, Optus and TPG each publish address-searchable maps, and each states it shows predicted outdoor, ground-level coverage. If anyone in the house works from home on a mobile connection, check all three.

Mail redirection

Australia Post redirects eligible letters and parcels for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months. Apply online, or in person for international and home-office redirections; you will need proof of identity. It publishes no minimum notice period for a personal redirection, so apply before you move rather than after: the alternative here is mail sitting at an old address, because the nearest counter to Menangle Park is a drive away — see mail and parcels below.

Week one: the things with lead times

• Ring Campbelltown City Council on 02 4645 4000 to order your bin service
• Save Sydney Water’s billing and fault numbers
• Register life-support equipment with Endeavour Energy on day one, if that applies to you

Bins

Council’s conditions are specific. The property must have an Occupation Certificate. Only the owner, the managing agent or the strata manager can make the request, and an occupant must be residing at the property when it is made. Bin charges are payable through the property’s council rates, not billed separately. Council says bins are delivered within three business days once the request is approved.

You get three: red-lid general waste, yellow-lid recycling and green-lid garden organics. Collection day is Tuesday for every Menangle Park address, so the bins go out Monday night; which week is recycling and which is organics comes from Council’s lookup. What goes in each is in bins, rates and getting things done with Council.

Water

Sydney Water is the water and wastewater utility here. Faults and emergencies: 13 20 90, 24 hours. Billing and general enquiries: 13 20 92, 8am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday except public holidays.

If you are building rather than buying a finished house, the sequence starts well before settlement. Contact council early: if your build needs development consent, council may not let you start construction until your plans are approved. Separately, Sydney Water has to approve your building plans through its Tap in portal. You may also need a Section 73 Compliance Certificate. Your plumber applies through Tap in to connect, and Sydney Water says a meter must be installed within two days after connection.

Sydney Water was building two new wastewater pumping stations, upgrading a third and laying a 2.2 km water main between Menangle Park and Menangle when its project page was last read on 30 August 2026. Complaints about that work go to its own project line, 1300 653 817, not to Council.

Electricity faults and life support

Two different companies, and new residents mix them up constantly. Your retailer is the one you chose before you moved in, above; this is the other one.

Endeavour Energy is the distributor. It owns the poles and wires, and it is who you call for an outage, a fallen powerline or a streetlight fault: 131 003, 24 hours. Life-support equipment is registered with Endeavour Energy, not with your retailer: fill in its online life support registration form or ring 131 003, any hour. That registers your address straight away; Endeavour then sends a Medical Confirmation Form for a doctor to sign, and the registration is finalised when it comes back. Endeavour notifies your retailer; ring your retailer separately about rebates. Start it on day one if it applies to you. Endeavour warns that it does not monitor reports made through third-party apps, websites or social media, so faults must come through its own forms or that number. Stay at least 8 metres clear of a fallen powerline.

Gas

Do not order gas appliances on an assumption.

Jemena Gas Networks is the gas distribution network for the region. Whether reticulated gas actually reaches a Menangle Park lot is a different question, and the only primary document on it is old: the estate’s own Service Infrastructure Report, prepared by SMEC for Dahua Group and dated 8 November 2018, states that “There is no existing gas reticulation network available in Menangle Park”, that servicing the masterplan would need 5.4km of lead-in main from Kellicar Road, that “the provision of gas is subject to a commercial decision by Jemena”, and that “gas is a non-essential service”.

That report is from 2018 and may well have been overtaken. Nothing published since confirms that it has, and Jemena offers no address-level availability checker.

Week two: the post office, pets and paperwork

• Work out where your nearest post office counter and parcel locker are
• Register a cat or dog on the NSW Pet Registry
• Note the four rates instalment dates and sign up for eRates
• Update your address on the electoral roll with the AEC
• Change the address on your driver licence and vehicle registration with Service NSW

Mail and parcels

Menangle Park has no post office of its own. The nearest outlet by road is Menangle LPO, 2 Station Street, Menangle NSW 2568 — a different suburb, postcode and council (Wollondilly Shire) — 2.85 km away. Do not plan around it. As at 30 August 2026 Australia Post’s own outlet page shows it on “Temporary hours” with all seven days listed as Closed, after the 25 May 2026 fire in the corner building that housed the general store and the post office. South West Voice reported that 16 people lost work. Australia Post has not published a reopening date or named a substitute outlet. As at 30 August 2026 the cafe was trading from a caravan, but its two published locations do not match — see the fire; the post office is not trading. Its standard hours on record are 9am–5pm. Ring (02) 4633 8101 before driving there.

The nearest outlet with published current hours is Macarthur Square Post Office, inside the centre at 200 Gilchrist Drive, Campbelltown, 6.96 km away — Monday to Friday 9am–5pm, Saturday 9am–1pm, closed Sunday. For a Sunday counter, Rosemeadow Post Office, Shop 21 Rosemeadow Marketplace, (02) 4627 3193, 9.51 km, is the only nearby outlet open, 9am to noon. For 24-hour collection, Australia Post lists parcel lockers at Marketfair Campbelltown, G, 4 Tindall Street (7.75 km), and at Rosemeadow Marketplace, Bradbury Village, St Helens Park and Mt Annan, all listed 12:00am–11:59pm. Pets

Registration is a state system, not a council one. All cats and dogs in NSW must be microchipped and then registered on the NSW Pet Registry by 12 weeks of age, or immediately on transfer, whichever comes first. Registration is lifetime, but annual permits are required for cats not desexed by four months and for dangerous and restricted dogs, and an extra fee applies for dogs not desexed by six months. Until you pay, the pet is not registered and fines may apply; a late fee applies after 28 days.

You can pay in person at the Campbelltown Animal Care Facility, 2 Rose Street, Campbelltown, Monday to Saturday 10am to 4pm, phone 02 4645 4790, or at the Civic Centre. Assistance and working dogs must be registered in person, not online.

Rates

Council issues rate notices each July. Pay in full by 31 August, or in four quarterly instalments due 31 August, 30 November, 28 February and 31 May. There is no discount for early payment, and penalty interest applies to unpaid instalments under the Local Government Act 1993. Revenue is on 02 4645 4935; emailed notices are available through Council’s eRates portal at erates.campbelltown.nsw.gov.au. Eligible pensioners can claim a rebate of up to $300 a year, as Council’s rates page put it on 30 August 2026, and the application is ongoing — no need to renew it each year while your details are unchanged.

Enrolment and licences

Update your enrolment address with the Australian Electoral Commission and the address on your driver licence and vehicle registration through Service NSW. For the record: Menangle Park is in the federal Division of Macarthur and the NSW state district of Campbelltown, and Campbelltown City Council is undivided, so all 15 councillors represent the whole LGA.
