Station Street fire: the cafe is trading from a caravan, the post office is not
The 25 May 2026 fire was in Menangle 2568, not Menangle Park 2563. The store reopened from a caravan on 31 July; the post office is still listed closed seven days. Here is where a 2563 household posts and collects parcels now.
The building that held the local cafe and the licensed post office burnt on Monday 25 May 2026. Three months on the cafe is trading from a caravan and the post office is not trading at all.
What burnt
The NSW Rural Fire Service posted at 10:09 on 25 May 2026 that RFS and Fire and Rescue NSW had worked to extinguish a fire in a building on Station Street at Menangle, and that it took more than 15 fire trucks to bring under control. Local road closures were in place while crews were on scene.
Dr Mike Freelander, Member for Macarthur, told the House of Representatives on 3 June 2026 that the fire burned for about three hours and caused severe internal damage to the 120-year-old building, constructed in 1904 to serve the Camden Park estate, and that the structure stayed on its foundations with some historic ovens and fireplaces surviving. He said the building housed a cafe selling local produce, meals and coffee, and the local post office. South West Voice reported that 16 people lost work, and puts the building on the corner of Menangle Road and Station Street.
No cause has been published. No Fire and Rescue NSW or NSW Police statement naming the incident could be found, so this page does not say the cause is under investigation either.
The cafe came back on 31 July, from a caravan
The August 2026 issue of The Menangle News reports that owners Shane and Marcel were back in business 67 days after the fire — that is 31 July 2026 — with their silver coffee trailer set up in the grounds of the Old Menangle School. The newsletter publishes these hours:
| Days | Hours |
|---|---|
| Tuesday to Friday | 7am–2pm |
| Weekends | 8am–2pm |
| Mondays | Closed |
The newsletter gives these as new hours and makes no comparison with any earlier schedule, so this page does not call them expanded.
A GoFundMe organised by Sue Peacock for owner Shane Esparon had raised $50,975 against a $60,000 goal from 459 donations when checked on 30 August 2026. Dr Freelander told the House on 3 June that over $45,000 had been raised by then. The running total moves, so treat any figure here as a snapshot.
The post office has not come back with it
Australia Post’s outlet page for Menangle Post Office, 2 Station St, listed “Temporary hours” with all seven days Closed when checked on 30 August 2026. Australia Post has not published a reopening date or named a substitute outlet.
The Menangle News says negotiations with Australia Post are ongoing about restoring the postal services the old store provided. Nothing has been settled. The operator’s own page mentions coffee and food from the caravan and makes no claim that postal services have resumed, so do not assume the post office moved with the cafe.

The Menangle News lists the Old Menangle School as the gathering point for the St James 150th anniversary parade on 24 October 2026. Those details come from the parish rather than from Council.
What to watch
Whether Australia Post’s outlet page for Menangle Post Office comes off “Temporary hours”, and whether the rebuild of the 1904 building brings the licensed post office back with it. Both are announced by the operator and Australia Post, not by Council. Check the outlet page before you drive. For the rest of the shopping picture, see where to shop and the directory.
