Privacy policy

Menangle Park Guide is a small independent website, published by QR Bowl Pty Ltd (ABN 14 695 971 398) under the registered business name Menangle Park Guide. This policy explains what personal information the site collects and what happens to it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We are a small operator and are not claiming any certification, accreditation or third-party privacy seal, because we do not have one.

What we collect

The newsletter. If you subscribe, we collect your email address, your first name if you give it (it is optional, and only used to address the email to you), and the date you subscribed. Nothing else. We do not ask for your surname, your street or your suburb. We send a confirmation email first, and you are not on the list until you open the link in it and press the button; a request that is never confirmed is deleted after seven days. No IP address is kept with a newsletter sign-up.

The listing and correction form. If you submit a business or a correction, we collect what you type into the form: the business or facility name, category, suburb, street address, phone, website, your name, your email address, and your message. Some of that is business contact information rather than personal information, but we treat the lot carefully either way.

Email. If you email us, we have your email and whatever you put in it.

A note on the forms. The listing and correction forms post to this site’s own endpoint and are stored by our hosting provider; a copy of each submission is also emailed to us through Resend, so that we see it. The newsletter form posts to the same endpoint, which then passes your address to Resend to send the confirmation email and, once you confirm, to hold the list. If the endpoint is not reachable, the listing and correction forms tell you so and give you an email address instead.

Server logs. The site is a set of static pages served by a hosting provider. Like any web host, that provider keeps standard technical request logs, which can include IP addresses, for security and reliability. We also read those logs as counts — how many times a page was requested — to see what is being read and to tell an advertiser how busy the page they are buying is. Those counts are totals for a page, not a record of who you are. We do not use the logs to build a profile of you, and we do not give anyone else access to them.

Why we collect it

Your email address is used to send you the newsletter you asked for, and to reply to you. Form submissions are used to check and publish (or decline) a listing, or to fix a mistake on the site. We may email you to confirm a detail before publishing. That is all.

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, scoring or targeting. We do not sell, rent or share the mailing list, and nobody else is given your address. The newsletter sometimes carries a sponsor message, written into the email we send — the sponsor never gets the list, never sends to you directly, and is not told who opened it or who clicked.

Cookies, analytics and tracking

Google Analytics. The site uses Google Analytics 4, added 4 September 2026, to see how many people read a page and roughly where visits come from. It sets first-party cookies on your device — Google’s own naming for them is _ga and _ga_<container id> — to tell a repeat visit from a fresh one, and it collects the page you looked at, your browser and device type, your general geographic area, and how you arrived. We did not build Google Analytics and cannot independently audit what Google’s own systems do with what it collects; what follows is what Google publishes about it. Google’s help documentation says IP addresses are not logged or stored in Google Analytics — they are used briefly to work out a coarse location (city, region, country) and then discarded (Google, “About IP masking in Universal Analytics”). We do not use Google Analytics to build a profile of you, we have not linked it to Google Ads or any advertising product, and nobody else — including a sponsor — is given access to the account. You can opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or with your browser’s own tracking-protection settings.

Visit alerts. So that we know the site is being read, the site can send the publisher two short Telegram messages about a visit. When it is switched on, that is: one when you arrive — the page, the site you came from if any, whether you are on a phone or a desktop, and the coarse location (city and country) that our hosting provider attaches to the request — and one after the visit has been quiet for ten minutes, listing the pages you opened and roughly how long each was on screen (your browser reports that when a page is hidden or closed). To tie the pages of one visit together, a keyed hash of your IP address and browser identifier is kept with that list for six hours and then expires; the IP address itself is not stored and is not in either message, and nothing is set on your device. From those visits we also keep daily totals for 60 days — how many visits, which pages, how long, which sites sent people here, phone or desktop, city and country — and send ourselves a weekly summary of them; the totals contain nothing that identifies you. Telegram (Telegram Messenger Inc.) sees only the messages. Every page does send one small request to this site for this purpose whether or not the alerts are switched on; when they are off, nothing is stored and nothing is sent. Added 5 September 2026.

What a sponsor block is. An image and a link served from this site. It sets nothing on your device, and the sponsor is not told who saw it or who clicked. No sponsor block is live on the site today.

The site does keep one thing in your own browser’s local storage: which checklist boxes you have ticked on a guide. It stays on your device and is never sent to us. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it.

If a page embeds something from another site, such as a map or a video, that provider can see the request. Where that happens we say so on the page.

How long we keep it

The mailing list itself lives at Resend; unsubscribing there removes you from it. We separately keep the confirmed address and the date you confirmed, as the record that you asked for the newsletter, and delete it if you ask us to. Form submissions and emails are kept while the listing or correction is being handled, and for a reasonable period afterwards as a record of why a page says what it says. If you ask us to delete a submission, we delete it.

Who it may be disclosed to

We do not sell, rent or trade your information, to anyone, ever.

Your information is stored using service providers who process it on our behalf and only for that purpose: Cloudflare (hosting, and the store the forms write to), Resend (Resend, Inc., which sends the newsletter and its confirmation email and holds the subscriber list, including whether you have unsubscribed) Google (Google LLC, which runs Google Analytics — see the section above for what it collects) and Telegram (Telegram Messenger Inc., which delivers the visit-alert messages described above and sees only their contents). We use no third-party form service; if another provider is added, this page will say so. Resend, Inc. and Google LLC are in the United States and Telegram Messenger Inc. is outside Australia; Cloudflare stores form submissions on a global network that includes locations outside Australia. Beyond that, we disclose personal information only where we are required to by Australian law.

Note that anything you send us for publication — a business name, address, phone number or website for the directory — is intended to go on a public page. Do not send us anything in that form that you do not want published.

Accessing, correcting or deleting your information

Email info@menangleparkguide.com.au and ask. You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. We will respond within a reasonable time and will not charge you for a straightforward request. We may need to confirm you control the email address in question.

If you think we have mishandled your personal information, email info@menangleparkguide.com.au with the detail and we will look into it and write back.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), the regulator for the Australian Privacy Principles, at oaic.gov.au. The OAIC’s website sets out how to lodge a privacy complaint and its current contact details.
