Schools and childcare in Menangle Park: 2029 public school plans, current catchments, and bus routes

1. The new public primary school (2029 target)

School Infrastructure NSW has formally funded and announced a new public primary school with co-located public early learning for Menangle Park.

School Infrastructure NSW’s September 2026 planning update sets out the latest design progress and retains the opening target:

• Target opening: Day 1 Term 1 2029 (the Department’s stated delivery target).
• Enrolment capacity: 500 student places, comprising 24 general classrooms and 3 support learning classrooms, master planned for future expansion.
• Facilities: Hall, sports court, playing field, and a co-located public early learning service.
• Location: The June 2026 update places the site centrally near the future proposed town centre and maps its indicative boundary near the future extension of Payten Street.
• Funding: Budget Paper No. 3 allocates $4.499 million to the project in 2026-27, covering the school and early childhood component together.
• Progress: The master plan has been validated and concept design is almost complete. The agency plans a community design information session in Term 4 2026 and submission and public exhibition of the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) in late 2026.

The September update describes the school land transfer from Dahua as being in its final stages, with completion and formalisation expected that month. A site access agreement has been signed for remaining assessments, specialist reports and investigations.

2. Where public students go today

When the Department of Education’s live School Finder catchment layer was checked on 30 August 2026, the Douglas Park Public School intake area covered essentially all of Menangle Park for primary school, with only slivers at the suburb’s boundary lines falling into the Mount Annan or Camden South intake areas. High school intake is divided between two schools depending on where your street sits. Boundaries are set by the Department and can be redrawn, so check your own address rather than the suburb.

Out-of-area enrolment

One non-local school closer to Campbelltown is Thomas Acres Public School in Ambarvale (~7.9 km away). Under NSW Department of Education policy (PD-2002-0006-01, section 4.4), schools can accept non-local enrolments only if capacity exists after accommodating local catchment demand. Where places are limited, mandatory priority is given to:

• Students with additional learning and wellbeing needs.
• Siblings already enrolled at the school.
• Students enrolled in a co-located public preschool at the school.

Proximity, safety, and supervision are optional criteria only — living closer to a non-local school is not, by itself, an entitlement to a place.

3. How children travel to school

School bus routes (Douglas Park Public School)

Picton Buslines operates dedicated school bus services linking Menangle Park with Douglas Park Public School in both directions:

Stop notes: These stops sit within the established village streets of Menangle Park 2563. Families in the newer estate stages will need to arrange walking or drop-off to these pick-up points. Train access

Douglas Park Railway Station sits roughly 600 metres from Douglas Park Public School via Station Street West and Camden Road (about an 8-minute walk). A direct trip from Menangle Park Station on the Southern Highlands Line takes approximately 10 minutes. Check the Transport for NSW Trip Planner on the day for current schedules and line alerts.

High school transport

Timetables checked in September 2026 do not list direct school special bus services running between Menangle Park and either designated high school:

• To Mount Annan High School: From 12 October 2026, the school-day route 889 timetable shows an 08:03 arrival at Macarthur Station. Route 891 leaves Macarthur Square at 08:24 and lists Mount Annan High School, Welling Drive at 08:40, then Welling Drive after Butterfield Place at 08:42. Allow time to walk between the interchange stops and check the connection for your travel date.
• To Ambarvale High School (Rosemeadow): Transit Systems operates school bus timetables connecting Campbelltown and Macarthur Square to Ambarvale High. Students take route 889 to Macarthur Station and connect via onward local bus or school services towards Rosemeadow. Check the Transport for NSW Trip Planner and school bus timetables for connecting departures on the day.

Free travel eligibility (School Opal Card)

Under the NSW School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS), free travel is available subject to minimum distance rules:

• Kindergarten to Year 2: No minimum distance requirement.
• Years 3–6: Minimum 1.6 km straight line, or 2.3 km walking distance.
• Years 7–12: Minimum 2.0 km straight line, or 2.9 km walking distance.

Because Douglas Park PS and both high schools sit beyond these distance thresholds, Menangle Park students may be eligible for free school travel via a School Opal card or School Travel Pass. Students must still satisfy all other scheme criteria (including age, residency, and eligible school registration), and every application remains subject to approval by Transport for NSW. 4. Local private schooling

Broughton Anglican College (81-83 Menangle Road) is a private school in Menangle Park, offering coeducational education from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 on a single campus. The college also operates on-campus Before and After School Care (OSHC).

5. Childcare and early learning options

Conditions and enforcement actions are different things. StartingBlocks describes a condition as an additional requirement a service or provider must comply with; conditions can be set when a service is approved or transferred, and a condition is not a finding that anything went wrong. An enforcement action is issued to a service that has not complied with the National Law or Regulations, and StartingBlocks lists those from the past two years. Fees and subsidies: Published daily fees are set by each centre and do not reflect out-of-pocket costs after Child Care Subsidy (CCS) is applied.
