Menangle Park's public transport has quietly got better, and not many people seem to have noticed.

Route 889 — the loop that links Menangle village and Menangle Park to Macarthur station and Macarthur Square — moved to a seven-day-a-week timetable on Sunday 5 July 2026, as part of a wider set of bus changes across south west Sydney. Before the change it ran up to twelve times a day, six days a week. Transport for NSW says the upgrade added 83 extra trips per week.

For a suburb where the train is hourly and the nearest supermarket is a drive away, a Sunday bus is not a small thing. For some households, that is the difference between needing a second car and not.

Two things were trimmed at the same time. The 889 no longer runs between Menangle and Douglas Park, which Transport for NSW attributed to low use, and it no longer runs between Macarthur station and Campbelltown station, which duplicated other bus and rail services. If either of those legs was part of your trip, it's worth re-planning it.

The same July round introduced new routes connecting Campbelltown, Liverpool, Leppington, Mount Druitt and Penrith to Western Sydney International — relevant here from 25 October, when the airport takes its first passenger flights.

Estate developer Dahua also flagged "a new bus route" among the headline items in its Spring 2026 newsletter to residents, published 10 August. The newsletter summary doesn't say which route it means — and the 889 is an upgraded existing service, not a new one — so treat the two as unconnected until Dahua spells it out.

Check before you go. The timetable has already been revised once since the change — the version Transport for NSW publishes now is valid from 20 July 2026, not 5 July.
