Route 889 has run seven days a week through Menangle Park since 5 July 2026

Route 889 — the loop linking Menangle village and Menangle Park to Macarthur Station and Macarthur Square — moved to a seven-day timetable on Sunday 5 July 2026, as part of a wider set of bus changes across south west Sydney.

What changed

Transport for NSW says the route now runs about every 30 minutes in weekday peaks and every 60 minutes off-peak and at weekends, with extended operating hours and Sunday services. The NSW Government’s 26 May 2026 release put the upgrade at 83 extra trips a week.

Two legs were cut at the same time. The 889 no longer runs between Menangle and Douglas Park, which Transport for NSW attributed to low use, and it no longer runs between Macarthur Station and Campbelltown Station, which duplicated other bus and rail services. Any description of the 889 as a Campbelltown service has been out of date since 5 July.

What the timetable gives you

The timetable in force is valid from 20 July 2026, brands the route “Macarthur to Menangle via Menangle Park (Loop Service)” and names Transit Systems NSW SW as the operator. Weekday departures from Macarthur Station run from 05:06 to 21:36; Saturday, Sunday and public holiday trips run roughly 06:16 to 21:14. Stops inside the new estate include Danehill Avenue after Peter Pan Street and Miracle Mile Boulevard before Octagonal Drive. The loop also serves Station Street in Menangle village and Menangle Park Station.

There are also dedicated school-time trips to and from Broughton Anglican College Senior Learning Centre at Menangle Park, including a Macarthur departure at 08:09 arriving 08:17, with return trips at 14:58 and 15:23.

Why it matters here

The train from Menangle Park is broadly hourly with peak extras — 20 northbound and 22 southbound stops on a weekday — and the closest supermarkets are a drive away, at Macarthur Square and Marketfair Campbelltown. A Sunday bus is the practical change: it makes Macarthur Station and Macarthur Square reachable without a car on a weekend.

The July round also created airport routes

The same round introduced routes connecting Campbelltown, Liverpool, Leppington, Mount Druitt and Penrith to Western Sydney International. The Australian Government department responsible says the airport opens to passenger flights on 25 October 2026, which is when those routes can carry passengers into the airport site.

What to watch
