$7 million committed for traffic lights at Wire Lane and Remembrance Driveway

The NSW Government has committed $7 million to signalise the intersection of Wire Lane and Remembrance Driveway, on the boundary between the Camden and Wollondilly local government areas. For a Menangle Park household this is a roadworks warning rather than a local upgrade: the intersection is west of here and not on the daily run to Campbelltown, but it sits on the way to Camden and Picton.

Wollondilly Shire Council says the funding was announced on 31 July 2026 by the NSW Minister for Roads, Jenny Aitchison, with the Member for Camden Sally Quinnell and the Member for Wollondilly Judy Hannan, at a Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue event in Camden.

Where it is

Wire Lane is at Camden South. Remembrance Driveway is a primary road through that pocket, and both councils describe the intersection as a key connection between the two shires.

What it is part of

Wollondilly Shire Council describes the upgrade as one of 83 targeted road safety projects funded under the next stage of the NSW Government’s Towards Zero Safer Roads Program, a $230 million round.

Mayor of Camden Cr Therese Fedeli called it a welcome investment for motorists travelling through one of the key connections between Camden and Wollondilly. Wollondilly Mayor Cr Matt Gould said Remembrance Driveway is a key connecting road for the shire and that the investment reinforces its importance.

What is not known

Neither council’s statement gives a construction start date, a completion date, or crash figures for the intersection. The money comes from the state Towards Zero Safer Roads Program, a different scheme from the Australian Government Black Spot Program.

What to watch

A construction start date. Funding announced is not work beginning: the expected start for the Appin Road works at Gilead has been revised twice, from early 2026 to late 2026 (see the Gilead tender). Treat this as money committed.
