The NSW Government has committed $7 million to put traffic lights at the intersection of Wire Lane and Remembrance Driveway, on the boundary between the Camden and Wollondilly local government areas.
The funding was announced on 31 July 2026 by the NSW Minister for Roads, the Hon. Jenny Aitchison MP, alongside the Member for Camden Sally Quinnell MP and the Member for Wollondilly Judy Hannan MP, at a Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue event in Camden. Both councils put out statements welcoming it the same day.
Where it is, and whether it matters here
Wire Lane sits in Camden South, roughly six and a half kilometres west of the Menangle Park estate. Remembrance Driveway is a primary road through that pocket, and the intersection is described by both councils as a key connection between the two shires.
So: not our street. But it's the same category of thing as the Appin Road upgrade at Gilead — a road on the edge of where people here actually drive, being changed in a way that will eventually mean roadworks before it means a safer trip. If your regular run to Camden or Picton takes you through there, it's worth knowing about early.
What it's part of
The upgrade is one of 83 targeted road safety projects funded under the next stage of the NSW Government's Towards Zero Safer Roads Program, a $230 million round.
Mayor of Camden Cr Therese Fedeli called it "a welcome investment that will improve safety for motorists travelling through one of the key connections between Camden and Wollondilly". Wollondilly Mayor Cr Matt Gould said "Remembrance Driveway is a key connecting road for the Wollondilly Shire and this investment reinforces the importance" of it.
What isn't known yet
Neither council's statement gives a construction start date, a completion date, or crash figures for the intersection. Funding being announced is not the same as work beginning — the Appin Road timeline has already slipped twice — so treat this as money committed, not shovels in the ground.
