Menangle Road widening is in planning under the $65m South West Sydney Roads Planning program

The proposed widening of Menangle Road — from Tindall Street in Campbelltown to Cummins Road at Menangle Park — is in the planning pipeline. It is one of seven corridors funded under a $65 million South West Sydney Roads Planning program announced jointly by the Australian and NSW governments on 5 September 2025.

The seven corridors

Transport for NSW lists them as the Hume Motorway (Narellan Road to Picton Road strategic options planning and access strategy), Cowpasture Road, Camden Valley Way, Campbelltown Road, Menangle Road (Tindall Street to Cummins Road, strategic planning for proposed widening), an Appin town centre bypass, and Jersey Road at Oran Park. Transport for NSW’s release put the seven together at about 76.5 kilometres of road carrying more than 100,000 vehicles a day.

Two of them matter directly here: Menangle Road is the daily route to Campbelltown, and the Hume Motorway item covers the motorway access Menangle Park uses.

Where it is up to

Transport for NSW’s October 2025 project update says geotechnical and utility investigations were completed between December 2022 and March 2023, and that concept designs and environmental planning are the next step, funded through the $65 million program. Transport for NSW describes the section as an “increasingly important local corridor”. The stated aims are better traffic flow, improved road safety, better connectivity and support for alternative ways to travel.

No length has been published for the Menangle Road section itself, and no future traffic or noise levels have been quantified.

What was said at the announcement

State Member for Campbelltown Greg Warren said the Menangle Road and Campbelltown Road upgrades are critical to keeping a growing city moving, and that planning now means safer and more reliable travel later. Federal Member for Macarthur Mike Freelander described planning for the Hume Highway and Menangle Road as vital as the community grows, and welcomed the start of planning for an Appin town centre bypass.
