Five household chemicals the recycling centre will not take, and the Leumeah CleanOut that will

The free drop-off ran 9am to 3.30pm on Sunday 20 September 2026 at 59 Junction Road, Leumeah. Seven of the twelve categories it took can go to the Hepher Road recycling centre any day; the other five wait for the next CleanOut.

This CleanOut has been and gone — it ran 9am to 3.30pm on Sunday 20 September 2026 at 59 Junction Road, Leumeah, free and without bookings. But the useful half of it does not expire.

If a Menangle Park shed has half a bottle of pool chlorine, an old tin of weedkiller, a jerry can of stale petrol or a box of hobby chemicals in it, those five things are the ones that have to wait for a CleanOut. Seven of the twelve categories go to the Community Recycling Centre on Hepher Road any day it is open. Leumeah is about 14 km from the estate entrance, roughly 17 minutes off-peak, north up Menangle Road, through Campbelltown and out along Pembroke Road.

What Council has announced

Council’s media release of 18 August 2026 carries the date, the hours and the address, and its wording on booking is “Bookings are not required for this free service”. Announcing it, Mayor of Campbelltown Darcy Lound described the material as “harmful chemicals that don’t belong in kerbside bins”. Council says the September 2025 event drew more than 600 residents and safely disposed of over 22 tonnes of household chemicals and problem waste.

The programme is not Council’s own. Council’s event page says these events are “run by the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA), in partnership with Councils”; Council hosts this one.

What you do not have to wait for

Council lists twelve categories accepted in household quantities, and marks seven with an asterisk: motor and cooking oils, batteries, paint, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and fluorescent globes and tubes. The note under the list reads: “Items marked with an * can be dropped off anytime to the Campbelltown Community Recycling Centre for FREE.” All seven are on the Community Recycling Centre’s own accepted-items list, read on 6 September 2026.

The five without an asterisk are what makes a single Sunday worth planning around: garden and pool chemicals, household cleaning products, hobby and craft chemicals, poisons and pesticides, and motor fluids and fuels.

The two places set different quantity rules. The CleanOut page says “Quantities are 20L or 20KG, except paint is up to 100L (in 20L containers)”; the centre’s page says residential quantities only, up to 20 litres or 20 kilograms per item type. Do not carry one across to the other.

Two things worth knowing before you go

No further CleanOut date is published for Campbelltown. On 21 September 2026 the NSW Environment Protection Authority’s event finder listed CleanOuts in other council areas out to 5 December 2026, and its only Campbelltown entry was the 20 September one. Council’s own page carries nothing beyond it either. These events run roughly annually here — the previous one was September 2025 — so the realistic answer for the five wait-only categories is to store them safely and watch Council’s waste page and the EPA’s event finder from about the middle of next year. The event leaflet linked from Council’s page ends at June 2026, so it does not list the next one.

The two Council pages word the recycling centre differently. Council’s release encourages residents to use the Community Recycling Centre on Hepher Road, “where many of the same household chemicals can be disposed of free of charge all year round”, while the centre’s own page carries a “No chemicals” heading and the sentence “Chemicals are not accepted at the CRC - take chemicals to your next Household Chemical CleanOut event”. Council’s asterisks give the answer item by item: motor and cooking oils, batteries, paint, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and fluorescent globes and tubes go to Hepher Road on any day it is open. Garden and pool chemicals, household cleaning products, hobby and craft chemicals, poisons and pesticides, and motor fluids and fuels wait for a CleanOut. Bins, rates and Council carries the centre’s hours, phone number and accepted-items list.

Also that Sunday

Emergency Ready Day ran at Koshigaya Park that same day, 11am to 2pm, free, with the NSW SES, Fire and Rescue NSW, the NSW RFS, NSW Police Force and NSW Ambulance attending. Two events on Council’s calendar, one Sunday, both a drive from Menangle Park.
