A motorcyclist was seriously injured on Friday 31 July 2026 after a police pursuit through Menangle Park ended in a crash at one of the suburb's busiest intersections.
According to NSW Police, officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command tried to stop the rider of a motorcycle on Menangle Road just before 2pm, over a traffic offence. When the motorcycle didn't stop, a pursuit was initiated — and then terminated due to safety concerns. A short time later, police found the motorcycle had crashed into another vehicle near the intersection of Menangle Road and Spring Farm Parkway.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the male rider for serious injuries before he was flown to Royal North Shore Hospital.
Why it's a "critical incident"
That term has a specific meaning in NSW, and it isn't about how bad the crash was. A critical incident is declared when someone is seriously injured or killed in circumstances involving police — which triggers an investigation by officers from a different command, plus independent review.
Here, a Critical Incident Team from Auburn Police Area Command is leading the investigation. It will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Command and oversighted by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission, the independent body that scrutinises police conduct in NSW.
No findings have been published, and nothing here should be read as a conclusion about what caused the crash — that is precisely what the investigation is there to establish.
Where this happened
The Menangle Road and Spring Farm Parkway intersection is not an obscure corner of the suburb. Spring Farm Parkway Stage 1 connects the Hume Motorway to Menangle Road, and it's the route a great many residents use to get in and out. Menangle Road itself is the subject of a separate widening program now in formal planning.
