Critical incident declared after a police pursuit ends in a crash on Menangle Road

A motorcyclist was seriously injured on Friday 31 July 2026 after a police pursuit through Menangle Park ended in a crash at the intersection of Menangle Road and Spring Farm Parkway.

What NSW Police say

According to the NSW Police media release, officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command tried to stop the rider of a motorcycle on Menangle Road just before 2pm, over a traffic offence. When the motorcycle did not stop, a pursuit was initiated and then terminated due to safety concerns. A short time later, police found the motorcycle had crashed into another vehicle near the Menangle Road and Spring Farm Parkway intersection.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the male rider for serious injuries before he was flown to Royal North Shore Hospital.

Why it is called a critical incident

The term has a specific meaning in NSW, and it is not a description of how bad the crash was. A critical incident is declared when a person is seriously injured or killed in circumstances involving police, which triggers an investigation by officers from a different command, plus independent review.

Here, a Critical Incident Team from Auburn Police Area Command is leading the investigation. It will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Command and oversighted by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission, the independent body that scrutinises police conduct in NSW.

No findings have been published. Nothing here should be read as a conclusion about what caused the crash — establishing that is what the investigation is for. As at 29 August 2026, no update on the rider’s condition, no charges and no investigation findings had been published.

Where this happened

The intersection sits on a route in and out of Menangle Park. Spring Farm Parkway Stage 1 opened in late August 2024 as a four-lane divided road linking Menangle Road to the Hume Motorway, though its ramps are city-facing only, so it is not a full interchange.

Menangle Road itself is the subject of a proposed widening between Tindall Street, Campbelltown and Cummins Road, Menangle Park. Transport for NSW’s project page, as at its October 2025 update, had that work at investigation stage, with concept design and environmental planning to start.
