RBA lifts cash rate target to 4.60% after September meeting

The Reserve Bank raised its cash rate target by 25 basis points on 29 September 2026. For Menangle Park mortgage holders, any change to a home-loan rate depends on the lender and the loan terms.

For a Menangle Park household with a variable-rate mortgage, the Reserve Bank’s 29 September decision could affect home-loan costs if its lender changes the loan rate. The Monetary Policy Board raised the cash rate target by 25 basis points to 4.60%. That target is not a household’s home-loan interest rate.

The Board said “inflation is still too high” and that it could increase the cash rate target further “if needed”. The 29 September release does not announce a further increase.

ASIC’s Moneysmart says a lender decides whether to change a variable home-loan rate and by how much. A fixed rate stays the same during its agreed fixed period. The RBA announcement alone therefore cannot tell a Menangle Park borrower whether or when their repayments will change, or by how much.

The RBA’s next Monetary Policy Board meeting is scheduled for 2–3 November 2026.
