Campbelltown Arts Centre is at 1 Art Gallery Road — about a ten-minute drive from Menangle Park, on the same run into Campbelltown's town centre most locals already make. It's a full arts complex rather than a single gallery: contemporary art spaces, a Performance Studio, creative studios, an outdoor amphitheatre, a Japanese Garden and Sculpture Garden, an Arts Café and a shop selling regional art and gifts, all run by Campbelltown City Council. Entry to the galleries is free.
The drawcard is the council's own art collection — more than 1,600 works by upwards of 650 artists, dating back to 1962, with a strong focus on Western Sydney artists and significant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander work. Part of it is the Marsden Collection, a bequest — reportedly worth around $1.3 million at the time — from Sydney lawyer and gay-rights advocate John Marsden, who was closely involved with the gallery from 1988 until his death in 2006.
Outside, a footbridge over Fisher's Ghost Creek leads to the Sculpture Garden, open daily since 2001. It's a permanent, site-specific collection rather than a rotating one — the standout is Joan Brassil's A tether of time (2000–2001), an interactive sound sculpture worth spending a few minutes with rather than walking straight past.
One to note ahead: Campbelltown Arts Centre is partway through a major expansion, funded through the NSW Government's Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program and due for completion around mid-2029. From April 2027 it plans to relocate temporarily to the ground floor of Campbelltown Library on Queen Street while the building work happens, continuing its exhibitions and events program through satellite venues in the meantime.
Good to know: galleries and the shop are open daily, 10am–4pm; the Arts Café runs 9am–3pm daily. General gallery entry is free, and there's free timed parking on site. Hours can shift around public holidays and exhibition changeovers, so check the centre's closure dates page before a special trip.
