How to play

Select Start race when you are ready. Your pacer runs anticlockwise on its own. Tap or click the track, or press Space or an arrow key, to move between the inside and outside lanes. Running into another runner ends the race. Runners flash a light and show an arrow before they change lanes. Each runner you pass scores 1 point. Switching out of a runner’s lane just before you reach it is a close call, worth 2 more. Horseshoes score 5 points times the multiplier shown on the infield board, and each one raises the multiplier by one, up to ×8. Run past a horseshoe without collecting it and the multiplier returns to ×1, unless a runner was standing on it. The race gets harder every lap. Laps 2 to 7 each add 10% to the starting speed and laps 8 to 15 add 5% more each, so from lap 15 the field runs twice as fast as at the start. A new runner joins each lap until there are six. The runners spread out round the track and keep both lanes busy, and as the laps go by they change lanes more often, move into your lane more often and give less warning before they do. Each new race starts at the original speed.

Use Tab and Enter or Space on Start race to begin immediately. While racing, Space or any arrow key: switch lanes. P: pause or resume. F: full screen or exit full screen. Esc: exit full screen or pause. M: mute or turn sound on. The race pauses when you leave this tab. Resume when you return.

Sound effects begin only after you choose to play. Switch Sound effects off in Settings to mute them. This setting stays on this device.

Guests keep their personal best in this browser. Each visit starts a fresh race.
